For this project, I examined the influence of algorithms on visual culture through a structured experiment. I spent 18 minutes scrolling through Instagram on my design account, allowing the algorithm to curate content tailored to my aesthetic preferences. I screenshotted 36 posts, selecting elements that aligned with my design sensibilities—bold, colorful, and highly graphic. Using scissors, I deconstructed these images and reassembled them into four curated collages.
In constructing the compositions, I deliberately employed juxtaposition to contrast graphic elements with real-life advertisements, creating unexpected dialogues between commercial imagery and abstract forms. Color contrast played a key role in enhancing visual impact, as I layered highly saturated hues against muted tones to create tension and depth. By integrating fragmented advertisements, I subverted their original intent, shifting their meaning through new contextual placements. The outcome is a reflection on how digital content shapes our visual language, reinterpreted through physical, tactile means. This process aligns with my broader design practice, which is rooted in bold storytelling, remix culture, and the intersection of digital and physical media.
